A.L.U.R.T.
ALURT
stands for Area Law Enforcement Underwater Recovery Team. The ALURT dive
team consists of twenty four (24) divers and support personnel. Of
those, several a sworn law enforcement officers from agencies throughout
Calhoun County. The team has been in existence in it’s current form
since 1978, when it became a non-profit organization and recruited
civilians to participate on the team as divers.
The team is not a
funded unit of the Office of the Sheriff. However, they do act in
support of the Law Enforcement Division to recover stolen property,
evidence and drowning victims. The team practices regularly in addition
to assigned tactical operations in support of any law enforcement agency
in the county requesting their assistance.
All
team members are trained scuba divers who receive training not only in
water safety and rescue, but also in areas of evidence recovery, scene
evaluation, witness control and various techniques of rope search
patterns, first aid and CPR.
The
Sheriff’s Office is very proud of the ALURT team and recognizes all
members for their outstanding contributions to the Calhoun County
Sheriff’s Office and to the citizens of Calhoun County.
