The regular meeting of the Calhoun County Agricultural Preservation Board (APB) was held on Monday, January 14, 2008, at 3:00 p.m., in the Planning Department Conference Room, County Building, Marshall, Michigan.

Jennifer Bomba called the meeting to order at 3:13 p.m. Roll was called with the following members present: Larry Metzgar, Sue Ann Jessup, Dan Kesselring, Ken Blight, Greg Moore, and Wayne Cornell.

Also present: Jennifer Bomba, County Planning Director

Meeting Minutes

Motion made by Dan Kesselring to approve the minutes of November 12, 2007 as presented. Support by Sue Ann Jessup. Motion carried.

Old Business
Appraisal of Hoyt Property

Jennifer informed members of the fundraising efforts to raise funds for the appraisal of the Hoyt property. A total of $1,700 has been donated from the Potawatomi RC&D Council, as well as $100 from the county Farm Bureau. We are still short $1,000. Jennifer will continue to seek other possible funding sources.

Discussion continued on the ability to use land division fees to put toward a small budget for the APB. Jennifer will discuss the idea with county administration.

New Business
Reappointment of Ken Blight

Motion made by Dan Kesselring to recommend reappointment of Ken Blight to the APB for a three year term to expire December 31, 2010. Support by Sue Ann Jessup. Motion carried.

2008 Meeting Schedule

Motion made by Greg Moore to adopt the 2008 Meeting Schedule as presented. Support by Dan Kesselring. Motion carried.

Formation of Subcommittee to Seek Funding Opportunities

Jennifer introduced the idea of forming a subcommittee to look into funding opportunities with the Battle Creek Community Foundation and WK Kellogg Foundation. Jennifer has spoken briefly with Annette Chapman at the Battle Creek Community Foundation and she is willing to listen to our need and see if they can assist us. Jennifer suggested a committee made up of a few other organizations with similar goals to prove a partnership effort. It was suggested that Tracy Bronson, Calhoun Conservation District; Rita Klavinski, MSU Extension; Jim Marshall, Potawatomi RC&D Council; and anyone from the APB who is interested be a part of this initiative. Ken Blight and Greg Moore volunteered to participate in this effort. Jennifer will make contact with Annette Chapman and proceed from there.

Staff Comments

Jennifer noted that Matt Davis did not seek reappointment on the APB. Jennifer will contact the Battle Creek Area Association of Realtors to see if they would like to recommend someone to fill the position. It was suggested that Jennifer speak with Mark Stafford or Mark Forester for potential interest.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
