New Business
2008 Annual Land Use Tour
Jennifer initiated discussion regarding the annual land use tour
organized by the Planning Department and Agricultural Preservation
Board. It was noted that in order to be successful, planning for the
event needs to begin much earlier than in the previous years. A few
potential tour sites were discussed including: Peter Loonin Dairy;
Barton Farms; Albion Ethanol (Anderson’s); Ben Hoyt Farm; and Mike
Heisler’s farm. Jennifer agreed to speak with Natalie Rector and Rita
Klavinski as to their ability to assist in organizing the event.
Staff Comments
Jennifer informed members that the appraisal was underway.
Jennifer also distributed an executive summary created by Chairman
Blight to be used when approaching funding sources. The executive
summary briefly notes the cause and why support is needed. Ken is
interested in sharing the executive summary with the Albion Community
Foundation for any advice that they might be able to share with us.
Jennifer encouraged members to review the document and share any
comments via e-mail so that a “clean” draft can be shared with the
foundation.
Jennifer also shared that she has been approached by the Chairwoman
of the County Board of Commissioners to assist with developing an access
vision show on the topic of farmland preservation. Jennifer will contact
Ken when a date is confirmed and if he is available he will also assist
with the taping.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
