Leaders of the corporate world make their headquarters here along with top private and public educational facilities, quality health care and an international foundation. The high accessibility to world markets makes Calhoun County a prime location for business. Two interstate highways, I-94 and I-69, which intersect near the center of the county, connect Calhoun County to every major trade route in the United States. Located along a major international trade corridor, the county boasts both passenger and freight rail service, an international cargo airport and a U.S. Customs Post of Entry and Foreign Trade Zone. One of the key advantages of a Calhoun County location is its transportation infrastructure, where air, rail, land and water move goods and people efficiently and economically.

Number of Persons Employed in Calhoun County

  • The Labor Force consists of those who are employed and those currently unemployed but seeking employment.  Calhoun's labor force has grown from 64,625 in 1990 to 70,550 in 2000.
  • In 1990, 92.5 percent of the labor force was employed; in 2000 that increased to 95.7 percent employed.
  • 66.4 percent of Calhoun's population age 16 and over were in the labor force in 2000, up from 62.3 percent in 1990.
  • Seventy-seven percent of all women with school age children worked in 1990, nearly 13 percentage points higher than in 1980.  Over six out of ten women with children under age six were in the work force in 1990, compared to less than five out of ten in 1980.
